A Month on the Moor

In July 2015 I went to England to watch the Champion Stake for Setters & Pointers. It was an awakening that changed  my approach to training deeply and made me look at British pointing dogs with different eyes. I also found the moor, the link that I have been missing since the beginning. I made treasure of what I had witnessed and started training Briony in a “different” way and… my little white tigress learnt a lot.  After months of hard work she was steady to flush and realiable enough to run in a UK Field Trial.

One year later, in July 2016, I was back to the moor and, this time, I had a dog with me: we were there to fully live the moor and the grouse, not just to watch them.  The section “A Month of on the Moor” is dedicated to what happened during my month there; to the events, the facts and the people that lead to it and made it possible and to what happened “after” but “thanks” to this experience.

Nel Luglio 2015 sono stata invitata in Inghilterra a vedere il Champion Stake (prova di eccellenza) per setter e pointer. E’ stato un risveglio che ha profondamente cambiato il mio modo di vedere l’addestramento e mi ha anche spinto a guardare ai cani da ferma britannici con occhi diversi. Ho anche trovato il moor, l’anello mancante di cui sentivo la mancanza fin dall’inizio. Ho fatto tesoro di quanto osservato e ho iniziato ad addestrare Briony in una maniera “diversa”. La mia piccola tigre bianca ha imparato tanto. Dopo mesi di duro lavoro era ferma al frullo e affidabile al punto di poter correre in una prova di lavoro Britannica.

Un anno fopo, nel luglio 2016, ero di nuovo sul moor ma, questa volta avevo con me un cane. Eravamo lì per vivere appieno il moor e le grouse, non solo per osservare. La sezione “A Month on the Moor – Un Mese sul Moor” è dedicata a quello che è successo durante il mio mese là; agli eventi, ai fatti e alle persone che mi ci hanno condotto e lo hanno reso possibile e a quello che è successo “dopo” ma “grazie” a questa esperienza.
